The unglamorous end of the range, which is the part that keeps everything else working. Aeration stops a dam going stale, wetland filtration keeps a pond clear without chemicals, while rainwater harvesting means a fountain runs through summer on roof water rather than mains.

Pond Equipment questions, answered

Why aerate a dam or pond?

Still water stratifies and goes stale from the bottom up. An aerator keeps oxygen through the whole depth, which is what stops the algae blooms and the smell in late summer.

Does the solar aerator run at night?

It runs while there is sun and stores nothing, so it is for daytime aeration on dams without power nearby. Where there is mains power, the wired units run continuously.

What does rainwater harvesting add to a fountain?

An underground storage tank fed from the roof, so the feature tops itself up from rain rather than the tap. In a dry summer that is the difference between a feature that runs and one you switch off.
