Compact Modular Outdoor Wood Fireplace Kit in Volcanic Pumice with Full-Height Chimney
The Ochre Living Hotham Complete Fireplace Kit brings the presence and warmth of a masonry fireplace to patios, decks and more compact outdoor entertaining areas. At 1,090 mm wide and 2,250 mm tall, it delivers a full architectural chimney line without demanding the footprint of a larger build. Constructed from natural pumice sourced from Iceland's Hekla Volcano, the modular kit assembles with the supplied instructions and arrives with all core materials included. Wood-burning with a 940 mm firebox opening, it provides real radiant heat and a defined outdoor focal point. Five-year warranty.
Perfect For
- Patios, decks and outdoor entertaining areas where a full-height fireplace is wanted without the scale of the Perisher
- Buyers who want a clean, contemporary outdoor fireplace form that does not overwhelm the space
- Courtyard and garden settings where placement flexibility matters and a freestanding or wall-mounted option suits the layout
- Outdoor dining and lounge areas where reliable wood-fire warmth across a long evening is the goal
Why You'll Love This
Right Scale for Tighter Spaces
At 1,090 mm wide the Hotham fits where the Perisher would crowd the space. The slim profile and full-height chimney give the outdoor area a proper fireplace presence without the footprint of a larger masonry build. It suits decks, smaller courtyards and tight entertaining zones well.
Hekla Volcano Pumice
The blocks are natural volcanic pumice from Iceland's Hekla Volcano. Pumice insulates the firebox wall so heat is retained and radiated outward rather than conducted through to the exterior surface. The material is lighter than concrete at comparable block sizes, which helps with handling during assembly.
Complete Kit, No Surprises
The kit arrives with all core build materials: pumice blocks, pre-cut firebricks, fire brick mortar, lip glue adhesive, render, a log retainer kit and chimney components. Everything needed to assemble and finish the fireplace is included and arrives together on a single pallet.
Flexible to Place and Finish
The fully load-bearing structure can be built freestanding, raised on a plinth or against a wall. The rendered exterior can be finished in any colour once assembled. Chimney extension blocks are available to add height if greater draw or visual presence is needed.
Features
940 mm Firebox Opening
The firebox opening is 940 mm wide, 515 mm deep and 720 mm tall, the same depth and height as the Perisher with a narrower width. It takes standard-length firewood and produces a strong, visible flame from around the fire setting.
Full-Height Chimney to 2,250 mm
The chimney runs to 2,250 mm as standard and can be extended with additional chimney blocks. A rain cap is available separately to protect the flue when the fireplace is not in use.
Firebrick-Lined Firebox
Pre-cut firebricks and Calderys fire brick mortar are included in the kit. The firebrick lining handles direct heat exposure inside the firebox and protects the pumice block structure behind it over years of regular use.
Low-Maintenance Once Finished
The rendered exterior is low-maintenance under normal Australian outdoor conditions. Ochre Living exterior render and jointing adhesive are available separately for touch-ups and ongoing maintenance.
Optional Cooking Grill
A cooking grill is available as an optional accessory and sits within the firebox once the fire has settled to coals. The Hotham's firebox size is well suited to direct grilling over wood fire.
5-Year Warranty
The Hotham carries a 5-year warranty covering major structural cracks caused by manufacturing defects that prevent intended use. Normal hairline cracking, consumables and damage from excessive heat or accidental damage are not covered.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Hotham compare to the Perisher?
The Hotham is the more compact model. It is 1,090 mm wide with a 940 mm firebox opening, versus the Perisher's 1,330 mm width and 1,180 mm firebox. Both stand 2,250 mm tall with the same depth and firebox height. The Hotham suits tighter outdoor areas and a more restrained aesthetic. The Perisher is for buyers who want a larger footprint and greater visual scale.
Can it be assembled without a professional?
Yes. The modular pumice kit is designed with owner assembly in mind and detailed installation instructions are supplied. Professional installation is equally an option. Local council requirements and site compliance remain the purchaser's responsibility regardless of who assembles it.
What is the render in the kit for?
Two bags of Ochre Living exterior render are included and applied over the assembled pumice block structure. The render creates the smooth outer finish visible in the product images. It can be left natural or painted once cured. Additional render bags are available separately if a different thickness or texture is planned.
Is a log store included?
The log retainer kit (2 metal bars and 2 fixing brackets) is included in the kit. A full Ochre Living Log Store unit is available separately as an accessory and integrates with the fireplace design to create a dedicated built-in wood storage area alongside the firebox.
Can the chimney height be increased?
Yes. Ochre Living Additional Chimney Blocks are available in small and large sizes and stack onto the standard chimney. Adding height improves draw and is useful for covered or sheltered installations where the standard chimney height may not generate sufficient pull.
How is the Hotham delivered?
The Hotham is generally delivered on a single pallet, palletised as a complete packaged solution. Delivery is to door or commercial depot. Shipping costs are calculated via the product page shipping calculator. Orders may take up to 3 business days to prepare during high demand periods.
