A waterfall is bought for the sound. Water over rock covers traffic noise the way nothing else in a garden does; it draws birds in within days.
These are pondless kits: the water lives in a reservoir under the stream bed rather than in an open pond. That is what makes them practical around children and pets; it is also why there is nothing to skim.
Waterfalls questions, answered
What does pondless mean?
The stream runs over rock into a bed of stone, then drains into a reservoir buried beneath it. You see and hear moving water; there is no standing pool at ground level, so nothing to fence or skim.
How much slope do I need?
Some. A waterfall wants a fall of at least 300mm over the run to look natural. On a flat site the stream has to be built up with the excavated soil, which is more earthwork than the kit itself.
Which stream length?
The 2m suits a courtyard or a corner. The 5m is the one most gardens end up with. The 8m needs a long run and reads as a landscape feature rather than a garden one.
