The owner's insights on the Medium Pondless Waterfall Kit
Five metres of stream is the point where a water feature stops being an ornament and starts being part of the garden. You hear it from the back door.
The reservoir holds 335 litres beneath the gravel, which supports about 2.2 square metres of stream. That is the number that decides whether it suits your space, not the length in the name.
Lighting is included here and is not on the smaller kits, which is the other real difference. A white LED package picks out the drops after dark. The Deluxe option swaps it for colour-changing units.
One thing the box does not contain: stone. Five metres wants close to 2.3 tonnes of rock, plus pebble on top. Budget for it separately and have it on site before you start.
How a pondless waterfall actually works
It is a closed loop, half of it buried. The same water goes round and round. None of it ever sits in an open pond. This is the half that photographs never show you.
In the kit You supply
The kit is the plumbing. The excavation and about 2.3 tonnes of rock and pebble are yours.
- 1The pump lifts itA pump sits inside the vault and pushes water up the buried pipe.
- 2The spillway releases itWater arrives at the head of the run and spills across the top stone.
- 3It runs down your rockIt falls over the stone you set on the liner. This is the part you design.
- 4It soaks back throughThe water drains through the gravel into the 335 L reservoir, then round again.
Why you'll love the Medium Pondless Waterfall Kit
Nothing stands open
The water disappears into gravel at the base, so there is no open pond to fence, net or worry about with children around.
Long enough to hear indoors
Five metres of moving water carries. It is the shortest kit in the range that reads as a stream rather than a spill.
Lights the stream after dark
An LED package is included, so the waterfall carries into the evening rather than going dark at dusk.
Choose your flow
Take the fixed 15,000 litre per hour pump, or the adjustable model and tune the falls by eye once the rock is set.
Tops itself up
The Compact Fill Valve plumbs to your tap and replaces what evaporates, so the reservoir holds its level.
One kit instead of a parts list
Vault, AquaBlox, pump, both liners, underlay, spillway, pipe, check valve and sealants, matched before they arrive.

Making the water fall where you want it
Waterfall foam is what turns a pile of rock into a clean sheet of water. This is how it is used.
Frequently asked questions
What is a pondless waterfall, in plain terms?
A waterfall with no pond at the bottom. The water runs down a stream you build, soaks into gravel at the base, collects in a hidden tank underground, then gets pumped back to the top. You see and hear moving water with nothing standing open at ground level.
How much stream will 335 litres run?
About 2.2 square metres. Aquascape's own formula asks for 154 litres of reservoir per square metre of stream. Build much beyond that and more water sits in the stream than the reservoir can give back, so the basin runs short on a hot or windy day.
How much rock will I need?
Rock and pebble are not included. Aquascape allows roughly 1.4 tonnes of rock and boulder per three metres of stream, so a five metre run needs somewhere near 2.3 tonnes, with pebble on top at around 30 per cent of that weight. Arrange it locally and have it on site before you begin.
Which pump option should I choose?
The fixed AquaSurge 15000 suits a build where the falls are set and you are happy with them. The adjustable 8,000 to 15,000 model lets you tune the flow after the rock is placed, which helps if you are shaping the falls by eye.
What does the Deluxe option add?
Colour-changing LED lighting in place of the white package, paired with the adjustable pump. Everything else in the kit is identical.
How deep do I need to dig?
At least 650 mm at the basin, which is the height of the Pondless Waterfall Vault. The stream bed above it is shallow by comparison, following whatever fall you have.
Does it need power?
Yes. The pump runs on mains power and needs a weatherproof outdoor power point within reach of the basin. Have a licensed electrician install one if you do not already have it.
Can I install it myself?
Most people can. It is excavation, liner, rock and one plumbing run. The manual covers every step. If you would rather not, we can organise a certified installer or work with your own landscaper.
