Pond and fountain pumps
A pond pump moves water through a filter, a waterfall or a fountain. Two numbers decide whether it suits your pond: flow, which is how many litres it moves each hour; head, which is how high it has to lift that water. Flow falls as head rises, so read the flow at your head height, not the maximum on the box.

As a rule of thumb, a pond pump should move the whole volume of the pond about once an hour. Heavily stocked fish ponds often want more. Fountains and water features need less flow but a clean, steady supply, so match the pump to the nozzle or feature you plan to run.
The range includes pumps for ponds with filters, fountain sets and gravity filter systems. Tell us your pond size, the height to your waterfall or filter and what you want the water to do. We will point you to the right pump.
Pond and fountain pump questions, answered
What size pump do I need for my pond?
Work out the pond volume in litres, then choose a pump that moves about that volume each hour at your head height. Add more flow for a waterfall, a long hose run or a heavy fish load.
What does head mean on a pond pump?
Head is the height the pump must lift the water, measured from the water surface to the outlet. Every bend and metre of hose adds resistance, so allow some extra.
Should the pump run all day?
In a fish pond the pump usually runs all day so the water stays oxygenated and the filter keeps working. A fountain on its own can run on a timer.
Is a submersible pump better than an external pump?
A submersible pump sits in the water and is quiet and simple to install. An external pump sits outside the pond and suits larger systems, but it needs plumbing and a dry, protected spot.
Do I need a filter as well as a pump?
A pond with fish usually needs a filter. Some pumps feed a filter directly. Tell us about your pond and we will suggest a combination.
Not sure where to start?
