Choosing a commercial umbrella

For a cafe or courtyard where the pole can sit centrally, choose the Shadowspec Oasis market umbrella (from $790) or the SU10 centre pole (from $5,929). Where the pole has to sit outside the seating, choose the Serenity cantilever (from $4,390). For pool surrounds and narrow courtyards, the SU4 tilting offset (from $3,490) moves shade through the day.

The difference between a commercial umbrella and a domestic one is duty cycle. A venue umbrella is opened and closed every trading day, often quickly, by staff who did not choose it. That load falls on the frame, the mast and the mechanism.

The SU10 is the one built only for venues: a commercial crank and a telescopic mast that closes above the tables, so staff do not have to move furniture. The Oasis suits a single cafe table. Will these umbrellas suit your venue?

For a cafe, a restaurant courtyard or a resort pool, usually. What decides it is the surface, the wind exposure and how many you need.

Do commercial umbrellas need to be fixed down?

Most commercial installations use a fixed base rather than a free-standing weight, because a weighted base takes floor space and can be moved. Mount options differ by model, so it is worth confirming the mount before ordering rather than after.

Can I put my logo on the canopy?

On the SU10 and Oasis, yes. Shadowspec offers digital printing of a logo or artwork across the canopy, or a custom Sunbrella colour, by quote. Printed and custom canopies cannot be returned.

How do commercial umbrellas cope with wind?

Shadowspec rates its umbrellas to Beaufort 5, winds of 29 to 38 km/h. Close them when the wind picks up and at the end of each day. Wind damage is not covered by the warranty.

Can you install them?

Yes. Our partner installer can set the mounts and fit the umbrellas, quoted separately; see installation.

When is a specialist commercial supplier the better choice?

If you are fitting out a venue with a dozen matching umbrellas, want branded canopies printed with your logo, or need one supplier to handle fabrication and installation together, a dedicated commercial shade company will serve you better than we will. We range four models from one maker and deliver them. For a large rollout that is the wrong service; we would rather say so.
