Shadowspec Serenity Cantilever Umbrella
Shadowspec · Cantilever Umbrellas
The owner's insights on the Serenity
We've fitted a lot of cantilever umbrellas over the years. The Serenity's rotation is what people notice first: spin the handle and the whole canopy swings through 16 locking positions around the mast in seconds, no ratchet, no wrestling it against a breeze.
ShadowLift's gas strut carries the weight, so opening it feels closer to lifting a car boot than cranking a winch.
We've installed these beside pools where the afternoon sun cuts hard across the water by three o'clock; being able to spin the canopy without moving a single chair makes that hour usable again.
It wants floor space for a proper base, so a paved terrace, deck or open lawn suits it best. If you're working with a tight balcony or would rather build off a wall than the ground, the Retreat is the better fit for your space.
Why you'll love the Serenity
Rotates without moving a chair
Spin the canopy through 16 locking positions to follow the sun, without lifting your base or shifting a single chair underneath.
Opens in about five seconds
ShadowLift's gas strut and the ShadowGlide carriage do the lifting for you, so there's no crank to wrestle.
Built for salt air and chlorine
Anodised aluminium and 316 stainless steel hardware shrug off pool chlorine and coastal salt, so it still looks sharp years in.
Lights your table after dark
Add the optional ShadowHub LED hub and your umbrella carries the evening light too.
Ten years on the fabric
Your canopy is backed for a decade, not just the first few summers.

Sizing the Serenity for your space
Allow around a metre of shaded overhang on each side of the table: a 2.5m square comfortably covers a 4-seat setting, 3.0m square a 6-seat table, 3.5m octagon up to 8, and 4.0m octagon up to 10. Total height runs to 2,908mm on the 3.0m square, with 2,219mm of clearance from the canopy edge down to the ground once it's open. The mount fixes at a single point, so leave a clear circle of around 300mm at the base for the rotation arc, and keep seating clear of the canopy's sweep as it turns. Frequently asked questions
How does the Serenity rotate?
ShadowLock spins your canopy a full 360° around the vertical mast through 16 preset positions, then a security screw locks it in place. The base stays fixed, so shade repositions without you moving any furniture.
How much wind can the Serenity handle?
It's engineered for typical Australian outdoor and coastal conditions. Like every cantilever umbrella, always close your canopy in strong winds and pair it with the heaviest base your surface allows.
Which base do I need?
Four options are sold separately as the Shadowspec Installation Base. Surface Plate bolts to existing decking or concrete, In-Ground Anchor sets into a fresh pour, Wall Base Bracket fixes to a solid wall, and Free-standing Base makes your umbrella portable.
Can I add LED lighting?
Yes. The ShadowHub is a 48-LED hub built into the top of your canopy, powered by the Shadowspec Smart Battery or a Hardwire Kit, both sold separately.
What size should I pick for my dining table?
Allow about a metre of shaded overhang on each side. A 2.5m square shades a 4-seater, 3.0m square a 6-seater, 3.5m octagon up to 8, and 4.0m octagon up to 10.
Is the Serenity suitable for commercial or hospitality use?
Your Serenity is warranted for residential use, 10 years on the fabric and 6 on the frame. For a cafe, restaurant or resort installation, talk to us about commercial specification and terms before you order.
Where is Shadowspec made?
Every Shadowspec umbrella is hand-built in New Zealand, under FernMark licence 101031, the New Zealand government's own mark of genuine local manufacturing.
