Which umbrella base or mount do you need?

It depends on the umbrella. The Oasis ships without one: a 27kg concrete base ($154) suits the 2.0m and 2.7m, a 35kg or 45kg steel plate ($495 or $605) suits the 3.0m and 4.0m, or the spigot and surface plate ($132) bolts down instead. The Serenity, Unity, SU4 and SU10 already include a surface plate or in-ground anchor; a free-standing base costs $600 more on the Serenity and Unity, $900 on the SU4 and $800 on the SU10.

Every base, mount and add-on here is made for a named Shadowspec umbrella, so check the fit column before you order. All of them ship free to every state, on their own or with an umbrella.

What you pay for a base depends on what came with the umbrella. Four models include a fixed mount; the Oasis includes none; the Retreat includes its wall bracket.

Getting the base right at home

A base only works if it suits both the umbrella and the surface under it.

How heavy should an umbrella base be?

Heavy enough for that umbrella's canopy, which is why the maker's figure is the one to use. For the Oasis, Shadowspec pairs the 2.0m and 2.7m with a 27kg base and the 3.0m and 4.0m with a 35kg or 45kg plate. A cantilever needs far more weight than a centre pole of the same size; our guide on cantilever base weight explains why.

Do umbrella bases fit all umbrellas?

No. Pole sizes and fixings differ between makers and models. Everything on this page is made for a named Shadowspec umbrella; for another brand, ask its maker. The Oasis pole is 38mm on the 2.0m and 2.7m and 48mm on the 3.0m and 4.0m.

What can I use instead of an umbrella base?

A fixed mount. A surface plate bolts to concrete or a deck, an in-ground anchor sets into new concrete and a wall bracket fixes to a solid wall. Each takes less floor than a free-standing base and holds better in wind. Our guide to anchoring an umbrella without a heavy base covers each one.

Can I return an accessory?

Unused accessories in their original packaging can be exchanged within 14 days, with freight both ways at your cost. They are not covered by the 30 day return.

Do I need a cover for my umbrella?

A cover protects the closed canopy between uses. Shadowspec covers cost $118 or $199 for the Oasis, $369 for the SU10 4.0m and $489 for the Serenity.

Can a cantilever umbrella base have wheels?

On the Serenity and Unity free-standing base, yes. The stainless steel castor wheels cost $298 and let you roll the base into position.

Which umbrellas take the LED light?

The Serenity and Unity only. The light sits in the top of the canopy and costs $298 with a Smart Battery or $390 wired to mains.

Is delivery free on umbrella accessories?

Yes, to every state, whether you buy them with an umbrella or on their own.
