It needs no base, no weights and no ground anchoring, and it leaves the area beneath completely clear. It is the wrong choice if you need to move shade around the yard, or if there is no load-bearing wall in the right position, because the mounting point is fixed once installed. For narrow courtyards, balconies and poolside walls, that fixed position is usually the point rather than a limitation.

Because the bracket carries the full weight of the frame and canopy plus wind load, we recommend a qualified installer rather than a DIY fix, and confirming your wall type before you order. What size umbrella suits a balcony or small courtyard?
On a balcony or small courtyard the usable measurement is not the canopy size but the floor space the umbrella costs you. A centre-pole umbrella needs a weighted base, which can take up a square metre of a space that may only be three or four metres across. The Retreat's 2.7m hexagon canopy shades a small table setting or a pair of loungers and takes no floor space at all, because the entire structure hangs from the wall.
Can a wall mounted umbrella handle strong wind?
No outdoor umbrella is windproof, and we would not tell you otherwise. What a wall mount changes is the failure mode: it is bolted to structure rather than resting on a weighted base, so it cannot be tipped or blown over the way a freestanding umbrella can. The canopy itself still needs to be closed in strong wind, and wind damage is excluded from the Shadowspec warranty, as it is with every umbrella brand we range.
