We've fitted these on tight apartment balconies and against poolside walls where a cantilever's base would have eaten the exact space you were trying to shade in the first place.
It needs a proper load-bearing wall behind it: solid masonry, rendered brick or a properly framed timber wall. The wall fixings themselves aren't included, so budget for a trip to the hardware store to match your wall type.

How is the Retreat different from a cantilever umbrella?
A cantilever stands on a weighted floor base, usually 40 to 80kg, sitting under the canopy. Your Retreat has no base at all; the whole umbrella hangs from a wall bracket, which is why it fits a balcony or poolside wall where a cantilever's base would eat the floor space you're trying to shade.
What kind of wall do I need?
A load-bearing wall: solid masonry, rendered brick or timber-framed, able to carry the umbrella's weight plus wind load through the bracket fixings. Cladding or plasterboard alone won't do it. Confirm your wall type with us before ordering; a qualified installer is recommended for the fix.
How far does the Retreat extend from the wall?
Your canopy hub sits 1,419mm off the wall as standard. Patented ShadowReach adds another 456mm for a maximum of 1,875mm, enough to clear a window frame, a doorway swing or seating pulled well away from the wall.
Does it come with the wall bracket, and are the fixings included?
Your kit includes one wall bracket, a wall clip for the closed position and the installation manual. The fixings themselves aren't included; pick these up from your local hardware store to suit your wall type. A second bracket kit for a multi-position install is sold separately.

Can I move it between two walls?
Yes. Fix a bracket kit at each location and your umbrella lifts off one bracket and drops onto the other in a couple of minutes, useful for chasing morning sun on one wall and afternoon sun on another. Additional bracket kits are sold separately.
