This kit works on the same principle as the pondless waterfalls, with one important difference in the hardware. Instead of a Vault surrounded by AquaBlox crates, the reservoir is a single moulded AquaBasin 45 holding 370 litres. It is a one-piece unit, which makes the excavation simpler and the install faster.
370 litres is more reservoir than either the DIY kit or the Small Pondless holds, which is what makes this one flexible. It supports roughly 2.4 square metres of stream or fall, with an AquaSurge 12000 moving 12,000 litres an hour behind it.
Where it suits is a feature with a defined face rather than a long meandering creek: a spill wall, a short rock fall, or a fountain feature set into a garden bed. If you want water running through the garden over five or eight metres, the Medium or Large Pondless kits are built for that.
As with every kit in this range, the rock is yours to supply and it is the cost people forget. Budget it before you order.
How a pondless waterfall actually works
It is a closed loop, half of it buried. The same water goes round and round. None of it ever sits in an open pond. This is the half that photographs never show you.

The kit is the plumbing. The excavation and about 0.9 tonnes of rock and pebble are yours.

What is a pondless waterfall, in plain terms?
A waterfall with no pond at the bottom. The water runs down a stream you build, soaks into gravel at the base, collects in a hidden tank underground, then gets pumped back to the top. You see and hear moving water with nothing standing open at ground level.
How is this different from the Pondless Waterfall kits?
The principle is the same, the reservoir hardware is not. This kit uses a single moulded AquaBasin 45 holding 370 litres. The Small, Medium and Large Pondless kits use a Vault surrounded by AquaBlox crates, which can be extended with more crates for a longer stream.
How big a waterfall will it run?
About 2.4 square metres of stream or fall. That comes from Aquascape's own rule of 154 litres of reservoir per square metre, applied to this kit's 370 litres. It suits a defined face of falling water rather than a long meandering creek.
Is rock included?
No. Rock, boulder and pebble are yours to supply. They are the cost most people forget. If you build a two metre run, allow roughly 0.9 tonnes based on Aquascape's allowance of 1.4 tonnes per three metres.
Does it need power?
Yes. The pump runs on mains power and needs a weatherproof outdoor power point within reach of the basin. Have a licensed electrician install one if you do not already have it.
Can I install it myself?
Most people can. It is excavation, liner, rock and one plumbing run. The manual covers every step. If you would rather not, we can organise a certified installer or work with your own landscaper.
Can I keep fish in it?
No. There is no open water and no depth for fish to live in. If you want fish, an Aquascape pond kit is the product you are after.
What maintenance does it need?
Far less than a pond. There is no surface to skim and no fish to feed. Clear leaves off the stream bed, rinse the pump intake periodically, and check the reservoir level through summer.
