The owner's insights on the ASA 3/4 hp Dam Aerator
This is the size that moves a genuine body of water. Four outlets means you can place diffusers across a large dam rather than concentrating everything in one spot, which is what actually produces even circulation.
Double diffusers rather than single is the other difference. More air per station means a stronger upwelling column, which is what lifts cold bottom water to the surface in a deep dam where a single diffuser would stall.
The choice between three and four diffuser sets is about the shape of the water, not just the size. A long narrow dam wants stations spread along it. A round one may be well served by three well-placed units.
Do not guess at this. A 3/4 hp system is a real investment and the difference between the right configuration and the wrong one is not recoverable once the hose is laid. Call us with surface area and maximum depth before you order.
Why bottom aeration, not a surface fountain
Still water separates into layers. Only a diffuser sitting on the floor can turn the whole column over, which is what actually fixes a dam.
- 1Still water separates into layersWarm oxygenated water sits on top. Cold, oxygen-starved water sits below it. Nothing mixes, so the bottom goes anaerobic.
- 2That bottom layer is the problemIt is where the smell comes from, where nutrients build up, and why the whole dam blooms green when the weather turns.
- 3Diffusers sit on the floorA compressor on the bank pushes air down a weighted hose to diffusers resting on the bottom.
- 4Rising bubbles turn the column overThe bubbles drag cold bottom water up to the surface where it picks up oxygen. A surface fountain cannot do this, because it only ever touches the top.
Why you'll love the ASA 3/4 hp Dam Aerator
Moves a real body of water
Four outlets across a large dam, rather than one spot working hard.
Double diffusers
More air per station means a stronger upwelling column, which matters in deep water.
Individual flow control
Balance each diffuser independently once you can see how the dam responds.
Cabinet options
Lockable and weatherproof for a machine that runs continuously.
Better for stock and fish
Dissolved oxygen goes up, the anaerobic smell goes away.
Serviceable in the field
Rebuild kits every 18 to 24 months keep it at full output.
Why you should consider an Aquascape water feature
Aquascape originated the pondless format and holds the Pondless® trademark. The Australian arm operates from Queensland with a certified installer network behind it. Order through My Acre and we will beat any genuine like-for-like price you find elsewhere. If a warranty question ever comes up, you are calling us directly, not an overseas call centre.
Tell us the space before you order
Send us the dimensions and a photo. We will size it properly, tell you what the rock and excavation will really cost, and say so if a different kit suits you better.

Frequently asked questions
How do I size it?
By surface area and depth together, not area alone. A deep dam stratifies harder than a shallow one of the same size. Call us with both numbers before you order, because getting this wrong is expensive.
Three or four diffuser sets?
It depends on the shape of the water as much as the size. A long narrow dam wants stations spread along its length. A rounder one may be well covered by three. Send us the dimensions and we will lay it out with you.
What is a double diffuser?
Two diffuser plates on one stainless steel base, so each station puts more air into the water. That creates a stronger upwelling column, which is what you need to lift cold water in a deep dam.
Is it safe for stock and fish?
Yes, and it usually improves both conditions. Aerated water holds more dissolved oxygen, which fish need. Stock water that is turning over does not develop the anaerobic smell that puts animals off drinking.
How far can the airline run?
Extension kits are available in 50m and 100m if power is a long way from the water. Running a single line to the bank and putting the manifold there also lets you balance the diffusers while watching them.
How loud is the compressor?
A rocking piston compressor makes a steady mechanical hum. The cabinet versions damp it considerably. Site it away from the house if you have the choice.
What servicing does it need?
A rebuild kit every 18 to 24 months keeps a rocking piston compressor at full output. They are inexpensive and we stock them. Skipping them is how compressors die early.
Does it run continuously?
Generally yes, though many owners run them on a timer through winter when biological demand is lower. Continuous running through summer is where the benefit is.
