Award-Winning Sculptural Bioethanol Fire Pit by Hiroshi Tsunoda
The EcoSmart Stix is a sculptural bioethanol fire pit by Hiroshi Tsunoda, in Stainless Steel or Black with a Stainless Steel or Black burner. Tubular steel legs recreate a campfire's geometry in a contemporary form. The AB3 burner runs 8 to 11 hours with no gas and no flue.
Perfect For
- Spaces where the fire feature needs to read as sculpture as much as heat source
- Poolside, terrace and alfresco settings where a vertical form is more interesting than a bowl
- Clean, smoke-free entertaining where a flue is not possible or wanted
Why You'll Love This
Campfire Form, Contemporary Material
Tsunoda's brief was to capture the feeling of logs arranged around a campfire in stainless steel. The result reads differently from every angle and creates a lit object that holds attention in a way a flat fire table does not.
Lightweight and Portable
At 14 kg the Stix is the lightest fire feature in the EcoSmart range. It moves easily between a living room, a terrace, a balcony and a poolside setting. No tools, no installer, no fixed position.
Award-Winning Design Credentials
Good Design Award 2011. DesignEx Best New Product 2011. IIDA/HD Award for Excellence. The Stix earned those recognitions through a genuinely original design idea rather than a refinement of existing fire pit forms.

Features
Tubular Stainless Steel Construction
The frame uses Grade 202 and Grade 304 stainless steel throughout. The legs are arranged to evoke crossed campfire logs but the structure is precise and repeatable, which is what makes it work as a design object as well as a fire feature.
Stands 780 mm Tall
At 780 mm the Stix is the tallest fire pit in the EcoSmart range. The elevated flame height means it is visible from across a room or terrace and the light plays differently at standing height than on a low bowl.
AB3 Bioethanol Burner
The AB3 holds 2.5 litres of denatured bioethanol and burns at 1.7 kW for 8 to 11 hours. The output is a calm, contained flame suited to atmosphere and conversation rather than heating a large outdoor area.
No Smoke, No Flue
Bioethanol burns cleanly with no smoke or ash. No flue needed, so the Stix can go in the centre of a space rather than against a wall or under a specific structure overhead.
Works in Groups
Multiple Stix units can be grouped as a fire feature wall or line of fire features along a terrace or pool edge. The consistent geometry reads well as a repeated element in a way that most fire pits do not.
Designed by Hiroshi Tsunoda
Tsunoda's approach was to find the essential geometry of a campfire and build it at human scale in a material that would hold the form precisely. The Stix is the result of that specific brief, not a general outdoor fire product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What finishes does the Stix come in?
Two body finishes: Stainless Steel and Black. Each is available with a Stainless Steel or Black burner, giving four combinations. The monochromatic approach lets the tubular form speak rather than colour contrasts.
How long does the Stix burn on a single fill?
The AB3 burner holds 2.5 litres of bioethanol and burns for 8 to 11 hours at 1.7 kW. The output is a calm, ambient flame suited to atmosphere rather than heating a large outdoor area. For stronger heat output, the Mix 850 or Pod series use the AB8 burner at 6 kW.
Can the Stix be used indoors?
Yes. Bioethanol burns cleanly with no smoke, soot or flue requirement. For indoor use, EcoSmart recommends a minimum room volume of 40 m³ for the AB3 burner. No gas line or chimney needed.
Can multiple Stix units be used together?
Yes. Groups of two, three or more Stix units work well as a fire feature wall or a line of fire along a terrace or pool edge. The repeating tubular geometry reads well as a pattern in a way most fire pits do not.
What awards has the Stix won?
The Stix won the Good Design Award 2011, DesignEx Best New Product 2011, and the IIDA/HD Award for Excellence. The recognitions reflect the originality of Hiroshi Tsunoda's approach to the campfire form.
Does the Stix need professional installation?
No. The Stix is freestanding at 14 kg with no gas, electrical or plumbing connections. Place it where you want it, fill the AB3 burner and light it. At 14 kg it is easy to move between indoor and outdoor positions.
