The owner's insights on e-NRG bioethanol fuel
e-NRG is the bioethanol EcoSmart formulate and test for their own burners. It is supplied in Australia by MAD Design Australia, part of the group behind EcoSmart Fire.
We recommend it for topping up any EcoSmart burner without a drive to the hardware store. It burns with a bright, steady flame and produces no smoke, soot or ash. EcoSmart say they tested it against a range of formulas for the longest burn.
Cheaper fuels are on the shelf, but EcoSmart warn that untested fuels can leave residue in the burner and void its warranty. e-NRG is the fuel EcoSmart test and approve, priced accordingly.

How much fuel your burner uses
Usage varies by burner: AB3 about 0.4 L/hr, AB8 about 1.1 L/hr, XL500 about 0.8 L/hr, XL900 about 1.7 L/hr, XL1200 about 2.4 L/hr. At $6.28 to $6.92 per litre delivered, that works out to about $2.50 to $2.80 an hour for an AB3, $6.90 to $7.60 for an AB8, and around $15 to $16.60 an hour for an XL1200. Keep cartons sealed, upright, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources; ethanol has a long shelf life if the cap stays on tight.
Frequently asked questions
Why use e-NRG instead of cheaper ethanol?
It is the only fuel EcoSmart test and approve for their burners. EcoSmart warn that untested fuels vary in purity and additives, which shows up as a lower, dimmer flame and residue in the burner. Using another fuel also voids the burner warranty.
How much fuel will my burner use?
The AB8 burner used in the Mojito 40, Mimosa 40, Martini 50 and Cosmo 50 uses about 1.1 L per hour on full flame. The XL900 in the Linear 90 uses about 1.7 L/hr. The AB3 uses about 0.4 L/hr.
How much does it cost to run per hour?
At $6.28 to $6.92 per litre delivered, an AB8 costs about $6.90 to $7.60 per hour on full flame, less on a lower flame.
Is delivery included?
Yes, on 2 or more cartons anywhere in Australia. Every EcoSmart fire order can include fuel in the same delivery, so you receive the fire ready to light.
Can I store e-NRG indoors?
Yes, sealed and upright, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Treat it like any flammable liquid: cool, dry, ventilated.
