SAM is a cooking fire rather than a fire pit. The difference matters. The centre is open flame. Around the rim sits a double stainless plancha, 15 cm wide, hot enough to cook on while the fire burns in the middle. People stand around it, cook on it, then keep standing around it once the food is gone.
Put the lid on and it becomes a low side table, which is how it spends most of its life on a terrace. That is the reason it works in a courtyard where a dedicated fire pit would be an object you had to explain.
Out of the box you get the plancha ring, the lid and the ash tray. The full cooking grills are a separate purchase. They are what turn SAM from a plancha into something you can grill on properly. Most people end up wanting them.
It stands 53 cm high on a 60 by 60 cm footprint and weighs 30 kg, so it is the piece to choose when a MARCEL would dominate the space. Electrique is a deep indigo rather than the bright blue the name suggests.

Frequently asked questions
Is the SAM a fire pit or a barbecue?
Both, though it is a cooking fire first. The centre burns open flame and a stainless plancha ring around the rim cooks while the fire burns. It is not a warmth-only fire pit.
What comes with it?
The brazier, the lid and cover, the double stainless plancha ring and the ash tray. The full cooking grills are sold separately.
Do I need the cooking grills?
Not to use it. The plancha ring is 15 cm wide and included, so you can cook straight away. The grills give you a proper grilling surface and are the accessory most owners add.
Can the lid really be used as a table?
Yes. The lid is designed to sit flush and turn the brazier into a low side table when you are not burning. It comes in the box.
How is it different from the MARCEL?
MARCEL is a covered charcoal barbecue at 95 cm with 3,100 cm² of grill for ten to twelve people. SAM is lower at 53 cm and lighter at 30 kg, built around an open fire people stand around.
Can I burn wood in it?
Yes. It takes wood or charcoal. The stainless ash tray under the fire handles either.
Can I leave it outside?
Yes. The tank, exterior walls and feet are cast aluminium, which does not rust. A fitted protective cover is available separately.
Do I need the handles?
Only if you want to move the brazier easily or fit the tablet shelf. The handles are heat insulated, so the brazier can be repositioned while lit. The shelf mounts onto them, so it will not fit without them.
Is there a taller SAM?
Aluvy make SAM at 93 cm as well as the 53 cm low version. We stock the low one, which is the piece people stand or sit around. Ask us if you want the tall version brought in.
