The owner's insights on the MARCEL Basalt
The Basalt is the same barbecue as the Original with one difference that changes everything about how it sits: the lid, the legs and the badge come in charcoal instead of cream. Against dark pavers, black window frames or a charcoal render wall, it reads as part of the architecture rather than as an object placed on top of it.
Underneath, nothing changes. 3,100 cm² of cooking surface across two stainless grids of 56 by 28 cm, a stainless lid in the box, an ash tray on a magnetic hatch with tool storage behind it. It cooks for ten to twelve people in one sitting.
The colour range is different though, which catches people out. Anthracite and Kaki are Basalt only. If you have your heart set on Aquasplash or Reseda, those are Original frame and you want the other page.
It weighs 45 kg on a four-point base. Two people can place it, though you will not be moving it around after that. Pick the spot first.
Why you'll love the MARCEL Basalt
Feed the whole table at once
3,100 cm² of grill across two removable stainless grids, sized for ten to twelve people rather than cooking in relays.
Disappear into a dark scheme
Charcoal lid, legs and badge. Against black-framed glass or dark stone it stops competing with the architecture.
Clear the ash without the mess
A stainless ash tray sits under the fire and pulls out through a magnetic hatch in the base.
Leave it outside all year
Cast aluminium does not rust. The stainless lid comes in the box and offers very little for the wind to catch.
Put the grids in the dishwasher
Both stainless grids lift straight out and are dishwasher safe, which removes the job everyone puts off.
Four colours built for the frame
Kaki, Champagne, Terracotta and Anthracite, each finished against the charcoal frame.
Why you should consider an Aluvy charcoal barbecue
Aluvy build in Isère, in south-eastern France. Every piece carries Origine France Garantie certification, which is an audited mark rather than a marketing line. We hold a price beat on the range: find the same model advertised for less by an Australian seller and we will beat that price. We deliver free anywhere in Australia and check in with you within a week of it landing. If anything ever goes wrong we handle the warranty claim for you. You call us on an Australian number, not an overseas call centre.
Talk it through before you order
Colour is the part people go back and forth on; photographs only get you so far. Call and we will talk through how the four Basalt colourways sit against dark stone, render or decking.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Basalt and Original frames?
The barbecue is identical. Basalt has a charcoal lid, legs and badge; Original has them in cream. The body colours differ between the two, so Anthracite and Kaki are Basalt only, while Aquasplash and Reseda are Original only.
How many people does the MARCEL cook for?
Ten to twelve. The two stainless grids give 3,100 cm² of cooking surface in total, which is enough to serve a full table in one go rather than in shifts.
Can I leave it outside?
Yes. The body is cast aluminium, so it does not rust. The stainless steel lid comes in the box. A protective cover is available separately if you want to keep it clean between uses.
Does it come with a lid?
Yes. The stainless steel lid is included and is made in France alongside the rest of the barbecue. It is shaped to offer minimal wind resistance.
How do I empty the ash?
A stainless steel ash tray sits below the fire and slides out through a magnetic hatch in the base. The same hatch conceals a storage compartment for your tools and charcoal.
Can I add an outdoor kitchen cabinet?
Yes. The Aluvy JEAN Basalt cabinet stands against either side of the barbecue and adds a worktop plus two storage compartments. It is not fixed to the barbecue, so nothing needs drilling. Order the left or right version depending on which side you want it to sit.
Is the MARCEL heavy to move?
It weighs 45 kg. Two people can position it without difficulty, though it is not something you would move regularly. Choose its spot before delivery.
Where is it made?
In Aluvy's own factory in Isère, in south-eastern France. It carries Origine France Garantie certification, which is independently audited rather than self-declared.
