The owner's insights on the Spillway Bowl & Basin Fountain Kit

This is the only piece in the range made from glass-fibre reinforced concrete rather than composite. GFRC is what architectural cladding is cast from. It is heavier and colder to the touch. It reads as a built element rather than an object someone set down in the garden.

It gives you two water sounds from one feature. The upper bowl spills into the lower basin, so you get a defined fall as well as the movement in the catch below. That layering is why it works in a courtyard where a single trickle would disappear under traffic noise.

The size difference is substantial. The 49/52cm runs an Ultra 2100 into a 102 litre AquaBasin 30. The 81/102cm steps up to an AquaBasin 45 holding 370 litres with an Ultra 4500, at about 172kg. Treat the large one as a landscaping job rather than a delivery.

Patina and Iron Ore are genuinely different decisions. Patina is the green-grey verdigris look that softens against planting. Iron Ore is a dark charcoal that holds its line against rendered walls and dark joinery. Neither is a paint finish, so neither will peel.

How a self-contained fountain actually works

It is a closed loop with half of it buried. The same water circulates continuously. Nothing ever stands in an open pond, which is the whole point of the format.

  1. 1A reservoir goes in the groundYou dig a shallow hole and drop the basin in. It holds the water and carries the weight of the piece above it.
  2. 2The pump sits inside itOut of sight, out of the weather, and reachable through the lid whenever it needs a clean.
  3. 3Water rises through the featureUp a short length of tubing, then out over the stone.
  4. 4It drains straight back downThrough the pebble and into the reservoir. You top it up occasionally rather than plumbing it in.

Why you'll love the Spillway Bowl & Basin Fountain Kit

Two sounds from one feature

The fall from bowl to basin plus the movement in the catch. It carries further than a single spill.

Genuine cast material

GFRC, the same material used for architectural cladding. It weathers like concrete because it is concrete.

Two finishes that mean something

Patina for a planted setting, Iron Ore for rendered walls and dark joinery. Both are through-coloured.

No open water at ground level

The reservoir is below a grate. The visible water is only ever in the bowls.

Scales to the space

49/52cm for a courtyard, 81/102cm when the feature has to hold a large terrace on its own.

Arrives complete

Both vessels, the reservoir, the pump and the plumbing, matched before it ships.

Why you should consider an Aquascape water feature

Aquascape originated the pondless format and holds the Pondless® trademark. The Australian arm operates from Queensland with a certified installer network behind it. Order through My Acre and we will beat any genuine like-for-like price you find elsewhere. If a warranty question ever comes up, you are calling us directly, not an overseas call centre.

Not sure which one suits the spot?

Send us a photo of where it is going and the rough dimensions. We will tell you which piece works there and which one will not, before you spend anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any open water?

No. The only water you see is the film moving over the feature itself. Everything else sits below ground inside a sealed basin under a grate, so there is nothing for a child to step into.

Which size do I need?

The 49/52cm suits a courtyard, a garden bed or a position beside a door. The 81/102cm is a terrace-scale feature that will hold a large space on its own. At roughly 172kg it needs proper handling and a compacted base.

What is the difference between Patina and Iron Ore?

Colour only; both are through-coloured rather than painted. Patina is a green-grey verdigris that softens against planting. Iron Ore is a dark charcoal that suits rendered walls, dark joinery and contemporary settings.

Is GFRC different from ordinary concrete?

Yes. Glass fibres through the mix let it be cast far thinner without cracking, so you get the mass and weathering of concrete without the bulk. It is the same material used for architectural cladding panels.

How loud is it?

A soft trickle rather than a roar. These are sized to mask traffic noise at conversational distance, not to be heard from inside the house. A taller drop makes more sound than a wider one.

How often do I top it up?

Through summer, roughly weekly. Evaporation is the only loss in a sealed system. A hot windy week takes more than a still one.

Does it need power?

Yes. The pump runs on mains power and needs a weatherproof outdoor power point within reach of the basin. Have a licensed electrician install one if you do not already have it.

Can I install it myself?

Most people can. It is a shallow excavation, a level base, one plumbing connection and a power point. If you would rather not, we can organise a certified installer or work with your own landscaper.

Review of Polito pizza ovens

I recently bought a Polito pizza oven from my acre. I was looking to replace an older outdated oven in my outdoor kitchen, which had started to fall apart after a few years cooking for the Boiz. I wasn't super stoked at first to spend this much on a pizza oven, but suppliers in NSW are hard to come by and Hayden was super helpful with organising getting it to me. I certainly wasn't upset when it arrived! I dont think I'll have to replace it any time soon

Reply from My Acre

Thankyou so much for the purchase & nice words Phil! So glad we could help!
