The owner's insights on PondEasy EPDM liner
This is the entry grade, and we would rather tell you that plainly than dress it up. PondEasy is 0.80 mm EPDM against the 1.14 mm of PondGard. Same rubber, same chemistry, less of it.
For an ornamental pond with a smooth base, a small formal water feature, or a first pond you are not certain you will keep, it is the sensible spend. It still stretches into shape, still resists UV, and is still safe for fish and plants from the day it goes in.
Where we would steer you to the thicker PondGard instead: anything you will set rock into, any stream bed, any swim pond, and anything you intend to keep for twenty years. The liner is the one component you cannot upgrade later without emptying the pond.
Working out the size you need
The formula
Liner length = pond length + (2 × depth) + 60 cm overlap.
Liner width = pond width + (2 × depth) + 60 cm overlap.
Use maximum depth
Measure the deepest point, not an average. Averaging is what leaves you short at the far corner.
Round up
Trimming excess after the water goes in takes minutes. A shortfall means starting again.
Underlay is not optional
More important on 0.80 mm than on anything thicker. The failure point is a stone under the liner, not the liner itself.

What is the difference between PondEasy and PondGard?
Thickness. PondEasy is 0.80 mm, PondGard is 1.14 mm, and both are the same EPDM rubber. PondGard carries a 25 year warranty and is the grade used for streams, swim ponds and anything with rock set into it. PondEasy is the lighter entry grade for smaller ornamental ponds.
What size liner do I need?
Add twice the maximum depth to both the pond length and the pond width, then add 60 cm for overlap at the edges. Use the deepest point rather than an average, and round up to the next roll width.
Is 0.80 mm thick enough for a koi pond?
We would use PondGard 1.14 mm instead. Koi ponds are deeper, usually have rock or bottom drains involved, and are built to keep. The liner is the one part you cannot upgrade without emptying the pond.
Do I still need underlay?
Yes, and more so at this thickness. Underlay sits between the ground and the liner and stops a sharp stone or root doing the damage. It is the cheapest part of the build.
Is it safe for fish from day one?
Yes. EPDM is inert. There is no curing period and nothing leaches into the water.
