An outdoor bath is the one piece of an outdoor bathroom nobody regrets. Under a tree, beside a pool or on a deck facing the bush, it turns an ordinary evening into the reason you bought the house.

Outdoor bath questions, answered

Can a bath really go outdoors?

Yes. On a coastal or bush block it is the best room in the house. What matters is the plumbing and the tapware: the fittings have to handle weather, which is why everything here is solid copper and brass rather than chrome-plated steel.

Will copper fittings tarnish outside?

They will; that is the look. Copper moves from bright through browns to a soft green patina over a few years, faster near salt air. If you want it kept bright, a lacquer holds the colour; it needs redoing as it wears.

Hot and cold, or cold only?

For a bath, both. A cold-only line suits a shower rinse; a bath wants a hot line run to the location while the trench is open, which decides where the bath can sit.

Who installs it?

A licensed plumber. The taps use standard fittings, so any plumber can do it; tell them the connection size and the mount type (bench, wall or deck) before they arrive.
