Shadowspec

Shadowspec builds outdoor umbrellas for Australian conditions: marine-grade aluminium frames, 316 stainless steel hardware and solution-dyed canopies that hold their colour under sustained UV. My Acre ranges the full line, from the 360-degree rotating Serenity through to the commercial SU10 and the wall-mounted Retreat, with the bases, covers, lighting and castors to match.

Which Shadowspec umbrella suits your space?

Shadowspec makes six outdoor umbrella ranges, and the right one is settled by two questions: where it mounts, and how hard it works. Cantilever models (Serenity, Unity, SU4) hang the canopy off an offset arm so the space beneath stays clear. Centre-pole models (SU10, Oasis) put a pole through the middle of the table and cost considerably less. The Retreat mounts to a wall and needs no floor space at all.

What is the difference between the Shadowspec Serenity and the SU4?

Both the Serenity and the SU4 are offset cantilever umbrellas, but the Serenity is the higher specification of the two. The Serenity rotates a full 360 degrees around its mast and opens on Shadowspec's gas-assisted ShadowLift and push-button ShadowGlide mechanisms, and it carries a 6 year frame and 10 year fabric warranty. The SU4 tilts manually rather than rotating, and carries a 3 year frame and 5 year fabric warranty. The SU4 starts at $3,490 with a surface plate or in-ground anchor included; the Serenity starts at $4,390 with the base sold separately.

Which Shadowspec umbrella is best for a coastal home?

The Serenity, Unity and Retreat are the three Shadowspec models specified with marine-grade aluminium frames and 316 stainless steel hardware, which is the grade used in architectural and marine applications exposed to salt air. The Serenity's spigot, the component connecting the umbrella to its mount, is heavy 316 marine-grade stainless steel. The SU4, SU10 and Oasis use aluminium frames with stainless steel hardware and suit sheltered and inland sites.

Where are Shadowspec umbrellas made?

Shadowspec is a New Zealand brand, and the Unity multi-canopy range is assembled by hand in New Zealand. Shadowspec umbrellas are not manufactured in Australia. My Acre is an Australian retailer of the range and delivers Australia-wide.

What are the disadvantages of a cantilever umbrella?

A cantilever umbrella carries its canopy on an offset arm, so all of the load sits on one side of the mount, and that has three practical costs. It needs a substantial base: a free-standing base, an in-ground anchor, a surface plate or a wall bracket, bought and installed separately on the Serenity and Unity. It costs more than an equivalent centre-pole umbrella, roughly four to five times the price of a comparable Oasis. And it takes more care in wind, since the same arm that keeps the space beneath clear also gives wind more leverage. What you get in return is a completely unobstructed area underneath and shade that repositions without moving the furniture.

Do Shadowspec umbrellas come with a base?

It depends on the model. The Serenity, Unity and Oasis are sold as the umbrella only, with the base bought separately (the Shadowspec Installation Base for Serenity and Unity, or the Shadowspec Oasis Base for the Oasis). The SU4 and SU10 include a surface plate or in-ground anchor in the base price, with a free-standing base available at extra cost. The Retreat needs no floor base at all: one wall-mounting bracket kit is included.

What canopy colours are available on Shadowspec umbrellas?

Across the Serenity, Unity, SU4, SU10 and Oasis, four stock canopy colours are included at no extra cost: Oyster, Alpine Stone, Charcoal Tweed and Black. Ten further Shadowspec colours are available as a special order at a surcharge: Natural, Storm, Charcoal, Linen, Taupe, Slate, Terracotta, Captain Navy, Fern and Sunflower Yellow. On the Unity, the special-order surcharge is priced per canopy, so a Quattro costs more to upgrade than a Duo. The Retreat has its own five-colour range, all at one price. Every canopy is solution-dyed, meaning the pigment is integrated through the fibre rather than printed on the surface.

What warranty do Shadowspec umbrellas carry?

Shadowspec warranties differ by range. The Serenity and Unity carry 6 years on the frame and 10 years on the fabric for residential use. The SU4 and SU10 carry 3 years on the frame and 5 years on the fabric. The Oasis and Retreat carry 3 years on both. All are back-to-base and non-transferable to a new owner, and wind damage, accidents and misuse are excluded. My Acre handles any warranty claim on your behalf.
